All Winter Long (Poetry)

06th August 2017
All winter long he soothed me
and kept my body warm
he touched my naked spirit
he sheltered me from harm

He whispered careful nothings
skin’s promise left unsaid
he quoted ancient scriptures from
lost books I wish I’d read

And when I asked my questions
he parried with the truth
admitted he’d no answers
by showing me the proof

that few things last forever
not knowing’s half the fun
dark loving interloper
by Spring he’d upped and gone.
